The management of a major video game publisher Ubisoft decided to postpone the mass introduction of NFT and blockchain in their projects. Now the use of these technologies is “at the research stage”.
Until recently, top managers of Ubisoft enthusiastically spoke about the prospects for the introduction of non-fungible tokens (NFT) in video games, however, it seems that the company’s management has somewhat cooled down to this topic. According to Yves Guillemot, CEO of French game publisher, Ubisoft is now exploring and evaluating the prospects of NFT and blockchain.
“We spend a lot of time on the cloud, the new generation of voxels, and exploring all the possibilities of Web3. We’ve already tested a few features, which has given us new information about use cases. We’ll test these technologies in a few games and see if they meet the needs of players. But I would say that while we are in the research stage,” Guillemot said.
At the end of last year, Ubisoft began testing the Quartz platform for NFT trading and announced plans to integrate with tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint game. Users took this news extremely negatively and criticized the publisher. Perhaps this influenced the opinion of the company’s management.
Guillemot stressed that Ubisoft is only exploring the possibility of integrating NFT into its projects, and the news about Quartz was misunderstood. As for the impact of blockchain on the environment, Guillemot expects a solution to this problem in the future.
Earlier, the fact that NFT is the future of the gaming industry, said representatives of the Japanese company Sega. But the management of Blizzard said that the company does not plan to support collectible tokens.
