Former head of marketing at Kraken exchange Dan Held criticized bitcoin followers for being overly biased and neglectful of other cryptocurrencies.
Dan Held is considered a long-time follower of Bitcoin. However, he recently stated that he can no longer be called a maximalist, considering BTC the only digital asset in which it is worth investing. Held said that he entered the world of cryptocurrency in 2013 and remembers the time when the concept of Bitcoin was associated with the Burning Man festival, being focused on financial freedom.
However, now the behavior of bitcoin’s maximalists contradicts its original philosophy – they are becoming more conservative, criticizing people for choosing other crypto assets. A softer approach to promoting bitcoin will be more productive, the cryptocurrency influencer is sure.
According to Held, he is lenient with other cryptocurrencies and is closely following the transition of Ethereum to Proof-of-Stake (PoS). Recently, he stated that the network’s transition to a new algorithm will increase the pressure of environmental activists on bitcoin. However, Held believes that it is much more effective to focus on the advantages of bitcoin, and not to prove, than other digital assets are bad.
“We should not demonize people for owning other cryptocurrencies. Most bitcoin maximalists behave not as investors, but as religious fanatics, demonstrating intolerance towards people who do not want to invest only in BTC. Forcing people to think about which cryptocurrency is better to invest in, or trying to dissuade them from investing in altcoins is not the best way, even if bitcoin is really the best store of value,” Held said.
A similar position is held by the CEO of Ripple Brad Garlinghouse (Brad Garlinghouse). He believes that the maximalists of bitcoin only make a split in the cryptocurrency community, reducing the chances of the industry for rapid development.
