A new malicious browser extension has been discovered on the network, which sends cryptocurrency to the address of intruders when conducting a transaction
Crypto exchange KuCoin has warned of the threat of losing funds due to a new fraud scheme using malware. The security service of the platform discovered an extension for the Chrome browser called “Google Sheets”, the technical support of the platform reported. The new plugin is disguised as the Google service of the same name.
If this extension is downloaded to the computer, when conducting a cryptocurrency transaction, it will be able to automatically change the recipient’s address to the address of the attackers. In this case, the funds will be sent to the scammers.
How widespread this software is, and what damage it has caused is still unknown. Also, it is not reported that the extension can only threaten users of the KuCoin platform.
In July, it became known that in the first half of 2022, the number of cases of hidden mining, which is carried out through vulnerabilities in applications, browsers and their extensions, increased to 66.7 million, which is 30% more than in the first six months of 2021.
