Rep. Tom Emmer, in a letter to U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, demanded an explanation regarding the sanctions imposed on the Tornado Cash mixer.
I sent a letter to Treasury Secretary Yellen regarding the unprecedented sanctioning of Tornado Cash. The growing adoption of decentralized technology will certainly raise new challenges for OFAC. Nonetheless, technology is neutral and the expectation of privacy is normal.⬇️ pic.twitter.com/0aN4a4A6tb

“The growing adoption of decentralized technologies will certainly put in front of OFAC new challenges. However, the technology is neutral, neutral and the expectation of privacy,” the congressman wrote.
According to him, sanctions against the mixer are unique in that they are imposed not on an individual or legal entity, but on a confidential code.
“The backend will invariably function as an anonymization technology as long as the Ethereum network is running. Who or what organization, according to OFAC, is responsible for imposing control over tornado Cash blockchain contracts?” asked Emmer.
Earlier, members of the decentralized autonomous organization Tornado DAO called on the community to hire a team of lawyers to appeal the blocking of the service.
Later, the intention to challenge the restrictions imposed by the United States was announced by the coin center, a human rights organization focused on the crypto industry.
Recall that Tom Emmer recently called the sanctions against Tornado Cash unprecedented and threatening privacy and innovation.
A similar opinion was expressed by Kraken CEO Jess Powell.
