Durov wants to use NFT and smart contracts for the auction of user names. The value of the TONCoin cryptocurrency is growing on the positive news.
Pavel Durov – the developer of the social network VKontakte and the Telegram messenger – reveals work on a new platform for trading user nicknames. The developer was inspired by the success of The Open Network (TON) itself, which successfully held the TON DNS auction in July. Then the network managed to sell the name wallet.ton for 215,250 TON, or about $ 260,000.
On his official TG channel, Durov writes:
I’m really impressed with the success of the auction recently held by TON for their domain names/wallets. Wallet.ton was sold for 215,250 TONCoins (~$260,000), while casino.ton was sold for ~$244,000.
Pavel teases the appearance of a similar auction, but from Telegram itself:
If TON managed to achieve such results, imagine how successful Telegram with its 700 million users could be if we put up for auction reserved @usernames, links to groups and channels. In addition to millions of memorable t.me addresses, such as @storm or @royal, all four-letter usernames can be available for sale (@bank, @club, @game, @gift, etc.).
Durov believes that the idea will eventually become part of a larger ecosystem where users will be able to transfer ownership of their names to other interested parties.
The developer adds: the use of the TON blockchain is the best solution for TG:
When it comes to scalability and speed, TON probably has the best technology to conduct such decentralized sales. Our team can write bulletproof smart contracts for TON (since we invented its smart contract language), so we tend to try out TON as the main blockchain for our future market.
After the statements of Pavel Durov, the TONCoin cryptocurrency added 15% and is now worth $ 1.30.
