At today’s meeting of the head of state V.V. Putin and the director of the Federal Service for Financial Monitoring, a whole range of issues was discussed. Among them, special attention was paid to cryptocurrencies.
Y. Chikhanchin reported to the President of the Russian Federation that the department’s employees are increasingly noticing the facts of use not only in speculative transactions, but also for financing terrorist groups, cybercrime and undermining the financial stability of the state.
According to him, hundreds of thousands of citizens of the country take part in transactions with cryptocurrencies for tens of billions of rubles. Rosfinmonitoring it is known that on several foreign platforms not only dubious transactions are carried out, but also crypto is used for cybercriminal acts, payments for narcotic substances, financing of groups acting against the Russian Federation.
At the moment, together with the FSB, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Investigative Committee, at least 400 financial investigations are underway, more than 25 criminal cases have been initiated, where Russian citizens suspected of illegal use of virtual coins appear. Y. Chikhanchin stressed that the investigation is helped by the so-called “transparent blockchain». Earlier, he was supported by the head of state.
With its help, it became possible to quickly go along the chain from the sender to the final recipient of assets. Representatives of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation and VTB also participate in the monitoring. Transparent blockchain is exclusively Russian know-how, there is no such thing abroad and soon it will be fully launched.
According to Y. Chikhanchin, it is necessary to strengthen control over the turnover of digital assets in the country in order to prevent the further use of virtual coins in illegal activities. Soon, an appropriate set of measures will be proposed that will make it possible to stop such attempts.
According to the assurances of the director of the department, all criminal cases will be brought to an end, the evidence base will be collected and the perpetrators will be punished accordingly. He also informed the President that the service will continue to cooperate on countering the use of cryptocurrencies in illegal transactions with other interested departments from friendly countries.
Thus, we should expect even more strengthening of control by federal authorities and law enforcement agencies in relation to the cryptocurrency market in the country. Most likely, the number of criminal cases will grow.
