Fan forums such as MacRumours discuss that clicking on Memoji symbols opens an augmented reality mode with three collectible card symbols.
Over the past couple of years, Memoji characters have become an integral part of Apple’s consumer branding strategy as the company has recognized the cultural component of memes and mascots.
It is expected that these maps will be positioned as Web2 elements used exclusively for collectible purposes, without any internal or commercial value.
However, due to their visual resemblance to RTFKT Studios’ CloneX avatars and Gary Vaynerchuk’s VeeFriends Series 2 animated maps, the Easter egg feature has sparked speculation in the non-fungible token (NFT) community about the potential of Apple’s future tokens.
During Apple’s first-quarter 2022 earnings report, CEO Tim Cook spoke out about the society’s adoption of augmented reality and metaverse technologies. At the same time, he stressed the company’s intention to invest in the developing sector.
Apple’s mixed reality headset, offering both virtual and advanced functionality, was supposed to be unveiled during the conference, but after technical glitches, that’s unlikely.
Recently, the company filed an application for registration of the trademark RealityOS, which is supposedly an operating system for a mixed reality headset.
