The Investigative Committee of Belarus is already actively withdrawing cryptocurrencies. This was stated by the head of the department Dmitry Gora in an interview with local media.
According to him, investigators are faced with the need to confiscate crypto assets against the background of their use in various kinds of crimes:
“What is cryptocurrency? As my advanced subordinates say, digital garbage. Based on this, I set the task: our state needs money to compensate for the damage caused, let’s think about how to make money from garbage. I won’t go into details, but we’ve learned how to do it.”
He noted that both state bodies and commercial organizations are involved in this process.
Gora said that as a result of the actions of the department, more than a hundred million rubles “in the form of normal money” are already in the accounts of the IC.
Recall that in April, the Ministry of Justice of Belarus determined the procedure for collecting digital currencies in the framework of enforcement proceedings. The document was adopted to implement the decree on the creation of a register of bitcoin wallets used in illegal activities.
According to lawyers, the mechanisms of confiscation and subsequent sale of digital assets prescribed in the resolution are incomprehensible and require clarification.
