The well-known analytical firm LunarCrush, which, since 2019, specializes in collecting various data in the crypto sphere shocked the digital industry with the results of another study. Thus, according to the results of the latest analysis, the number of various bots and spam actively distributed in the crypto space by various attackers has grown by almost 4,000%.
Analysts who have studied the issue of increasing spam claim that now the speed of its spread has reached the highest possible level. The highest rate of spam falls on social networks, whose security service in recent years simply does not cope with the work of identifying and eliminating it. Based on the results of the analysis, in the period from 2019 to the present day, only in the cryptocurrency sector the number of different bots increased by 3877%.
The report focuses on the fact that most bot accounts, in fact, are real people. Precisely because there is a real person sitting on the other side of the screen, it is very difficult for automated software to identify an account as “suspicious” and mark it as spam.
Most of all, analysts were shocked by the results of the analysis of the social network Twitter. There, spam activity increased by 1100%. General LunarCrush Joe Vezzani, by the way, could not resist and commented on this situation.
“What is happening now on Twitter – the number of fake accounts, bots and the active spread of fraudulent tricks – is nothing more than indifference and quiet encouragement from the management of the social network. Yes, this is not strange, because due to spam, the attendance of the platform also increases. That’s how they, unfortunately, make themselves popular, “the man summed up.
Speaking of spam, which has truly become a real digital disaster, it is impossible not to recall the situation around the recent purchase by Elon Musk of the social network Twitter. The billionaire even before the completion of the transaction announced his intention to take the path of active struggle with various bots. In his opinion, the data on the increase in spam by 5% are false, they say, in fact, this figure is several times higher.
Whether Musk will really fulfill the promise and completely change the policy of the social network, guided primarily by the interests of users, is unknown. We can only say for sure that an increase in crypto-spam on the Internet, in the event of inaction, can lead to the collapse of not only the digital industry, but the entire digital space.
Earlier, we talked in more detail about Musk’s statement regarding the plan to eradicate spam in the Twitter community.
