US intelligence agencies shared with colleagues from Brazil methods of combating theft and shadow transactions with cryptocurrencies, collecting evidence related to cybercrime, and interrogation techniques.
The Ministry of Justice and Public Security of Brazil reported that 80 agents of the security forces of Brazil for two weeks met in Rio de Janeiro and Porto Alegre with representatives of US special services. As part of a partnership between the Brazilian government and the U.S. Consulate, agents from the FBI, the U.S. Federal Police, the CIA, the Intelligence Center, ICHIP, and the National Security Division participated in a hands-on conference dedicated to investigating crypto asset crimes.
“We are investing heavily in technical improvements to keep security agents up to date with the most advanced forms of fighting crime,” said Anderson Torres, Minister of Justice and Public Safety.
Assistant Secretary for Integrated Operations Braulio de Melo noted that the exchange of knowledge with American agents gives Brazilian police technical and practical qualifications that will help in the fight against various crimes in the field of digital assets, such as account theft, cryptocurrency fraud, tax evasion and money laundering.
Recall that in January, Brazilian police arrested South African Johann Steinberg, the fugitive organizer of the largest cryptocurrency pyramid of 2020 Mirror Trading International.
