The developers of the popular client for Ethereum OpenEthereum announced the complete cessation of work on the project in connection with the imminent transition of the network of the second cryptocurrency to the PoS algorithm.
In a series of messages on Twitter, the developers presented a brief history of the client, which began back in 2015 under the name Parity. As noted in the statement, “the OpenEthereum codebase is already 7 years old and it is becoming increasingly difficult to maintain and manage it.”
“The software repository has been moved to the archive, all support and updating of the program has been discontinued. The transition to PoS is approaching,” the developers write.
The OpenEthereum team noted that now is the right time to end customer support. The usefulness of this software has exhausted itself, and developers expect “the next stage – a clean, green and scalable blockchain infrastructure.”
Earlier, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin and several other developers confirmed that the transition to the new Proof-of-Stake consensus mechanism could take place as early as August this year.
