The owner of the NFT, having followed the link sent by the fraudster to the malicious site, conducted a transaction and lost 29 non-fungible tokens.
A member of Proof Collective under the nickname Cirrus on May 25 reported on Twitter that he was the victim of a phishing attack, as a result of which he lost NFT for $ 1.5 million. he said that in the morning he received a link from an unknown person, clicking on which to a certain trading platform, conducted a transaction, as a result of which he lost his tokens from the Moonbird collection.
“Shortly after I clicked on a phishing link, I was hacked. It’s disgusting to see things like that. Let this be a reminder to all of you to never click on links and bookmark the marketplaces and sites you use,” Cirrus warned collectors.
He added that hardware wallets do not protect against scammers when you conduct transactions yourself.
Another member of the Proof Collective, the owner of NFT with a long experience under the nickname Dollar, warned the hacker under the nickname DVincent that his identity was almost revealed through the scheme of moving tokens, and if he does not return the NFT, he will be arrested:
“You’re already half doxed. It is better to return 2 million dollars now, otherwise you will be behind bars. The full report to the FBI has already been sent by members of the Proof Collective.”
This is not the first case of fraud on the part of a hacker under the nickname DVincent. A user under the nickname Just1n.eth said that earlier the criminal had already tried to negotiate a deal with him. A user under the nickname Sulfaxyz reported that he almost became a victim of this hacker, but turned out to be more prudent:
“I told him I would only use NFTTrader, and he kept pushing for another, fraudulent platform. I said no. The scammer was DVincent. So be careful guys!”
With the development of the market for non-fungible tokens, NFT collectors are increasingly becoming victims of scammers. In February, collector Larry Lawliet said that he lost seven tokens from the Bored Ape collection, five Mutant Apes tokens and one Doodle token for a total of $ 2.7 million.
