Today Ripple is updating its servers to the recently released version 1.9.1 rippled , a reference implementation of the XRP Ledger Protocol (XRPL), and configures its validators to vote for the activation of the XLS-20 amendment in the XRPL core network.
The developers of RippleX reported that Ripple validators have conducted tests and are voting for the amendment. In the last version 1.9.0. validators voted againstbecause there was no certainty in understanding the impact of NFT on the main XRP Ledger network.
Ripple offered XLS-20 last May to provide built-in support for NFT in XRPL and give developers access to NFT minting, trading, and recording features. The XLS-20 also includes advanced features such as automatic royalties, asset-sharing, and more without the need for smart contracts.
What’s new
In line with the previous commitment, the developers of RippleX conducted extensive testing to ensure that the NFT code is stable, scalable and productive in the face of the additional volume of transactions expected due to the built-in support of NFT in the registry.
“As a result of this testing, we are confident that XRPL can support additional transaction load at scale.”
The team will share the test results in the coming weeks so that server operators can better understand the performance characteristics and resource requirements of server software in the space where XLS-20 is activated.
Release 1.9.1 includes fixes to address sync issues, as well as several improvements.
XRPL Amendments: The Path to XLS-20
The activation of the XRPL core network amendment is independent of a single person, operator, or server. Process Amendment requires a broad network agreement for a long period. By default, proposed amendments to new features, including the XLS-20 standard, are set to No.
By design, this gives validators time to consider the proposed amendments before deciding whether to vote for their inclusion. if any of the two amendments introduced in release 1.9.1 reach and maintain the required 80% support the servers running on the previous versions will appear to be Blocked . To ensure continuity of service, server operators must be prepared refresh Software up to a version that includes support for changes that are supported by the majority.
As is the case with all proposed amendments that introduce new features, Ripple recommends that XRPL validators do their own due diligence before moving forward and voting for the inclusion of XLS-20.
To further improve the scalability and performance of the network, Ripple continues to work on the open source project Clio
for develop best-in-class tools and build on open protocols.
For anyone interested in experimenting with the XLS-20 and exploring the NFT capabilities it represents, Ripple has launched NFT-Devnet , which demonstrates the performance characteristics and implications of the proposed XLS-20 standard without compromising the performance of the XRPL core network.
