The American online trading platform eBay has launched a collection of non-fungible tokens in partnership with the NFT platform OneOf.
“NFT and blockchain technology are revolutionizing the collectibles space and are increasingly seen as an investment opportunity for enthusiasts,” said Done Block, vice president of eBay.
Genesis’ debut collection includes 3D and animated images of iconic athletes who have appeared on the covers of Sports Illustrated. As the first NFT, canadian hockey player, four-time Stanley Cup winner Wayne Gretzky was chosen.

“Forty years ago, I was grateful to be on the cover of Sports Illustrated, it was a momentous moment in my life. I am honored to give a collectible experience to hockey fans who have followed my career for decades,” Gretzky said.
Earlier, the partnership with OneOf was announced by DJ and producer Alesso and the American National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.
In May 2021, OneOf raised $63 million in a seed funding round. It was attended by eco-activist Bill Tye, Jack Herrick, Suna Saeed from Nima Capital, Sangha Capital and the Tezos Foundation.
Recall that in the same month, eBay allowed users to trade NFT. Prior to this, the head of the company Jamie Yannone said that the site is considering the possibility of accepting payments in cryptocurrencies.
