The Twitter account (the social network is blocked in the territory of the Russian Federation, belongs to the company Meta – the company is recognized as extremist in the territory of the Russian Federation) of the graphic artist Mike Winkelman, also known as BEEPLE, was hacked today to promote crypto fraud. His account was hacked to share a fake link allegedly to a collaboration website with fashion designer Louis Vuitton.
Harry. ETH, a security researcher at MetaMask/MyCrypto, tweeted (the social network is blocked in Russia, owned by Meta , the company is recognized as extremist in the territory of the Russian Federation) that “the Beeple account was compromised (ATO) for publishing a phishing website in order to steal funds.”
It turned out that today the victims lost 35 ETH worth about $ 71,000.
The BEEPLE account was hacked to share a fake link to the “official record of the draw”, and Twitter users (the social network is blocked in the territory of the Russian Federation, belongs to the company Meta – the company is recognized as extremist in the territory of the Russian Federation) warned others not to click on it, as some said that their ETH wallets were emptied.
As previously reported, Louis Vuitton ordered BEEPLE to create non-fungible tokens (NFT) as a reward for the draw and the game called Louis: The Game.
BEEPLE has about 672,000 followers on Twitter (the social network is blocked in the territory of the Russian Federation, belongs to the company Meta – the company is recognized as extremist in the territory of the Russian Federation), according to its page. Last year, BEEPLE sold the NFT at auction for a record $69 million.
