Dagestan law enforcers identified and stopped the activities of 2 illegal cryptocurrency farms as part of regular raids, confiscating more than 1,500 pieces of equipment in the process.
Law enforcement officials in Dagestan revealed a large crypto-farm in Makhachkala and confiscated 1,476 pieces of mining equipment. The agency noted that the owners of the illegal farm also provided a number of services to other crypto miners. They could install the mining equipment, connect them to the power grid, as well as ensure their safety. At the moment, experts are assessing the market value of the seized installations, as well as the amount of energy spent on its work.
Against the owners of the facility, law enforcement officers are gathering evidence for subsequent charges under articles relating, among other things, to illegal entrepreneurship.
It is noted that it is Dagestan, on a par with Krasnoyarsk Krai Irkutsk Oblast, that has recently been the region of Russia that has become a center of illegal and home crypto-mining.Such interest in the industry arose because of the low cost of electricity, which, in turn, leads to overloading of power grids, power outages due to accidents, problems in residential areas.
Another 95 mining units were recently uncovered at the Makhachkala Vodokanal facility. The miners turned out to be housed in a metal container at one of the pumping stations. The capacity of such a farm was 260 kW, and the illegal consumption of electricity was over 4.5 million kWh. This figure is equivalent to over $400,000.
It is noted that a resident of Makhachkala managed to build such a farm in collusion with the employees of the water supply company.
